Ron Mueck is a London-based photo-realist artist. Born in Melbourne, Australia, to parents who were toy makers, he labored on children’s television shows for 15 years before working in special effects for such films as “Labyrinth,” a 1986 fantasy epic starring David Bowie. In the early 1990s Mueck was commissioned to make something highly realistic, and was wondering what material would do the trick. Latex was the usual, but he wanted something harder, more precise. Luckily, he saw a little architectural decor on the wall of a boutique and inquired as to the nice, pink stuff’s nature. Fiberglass resin was the answer, and Mueck has made it his bronze and marble ever since.

Nacido en Melbourne, Australia, con padres quienes eran fabricantes de juguetes, trabajó en programas de televisión infantil durante 15 años antes de trabajar en efectos especiales para películas como “Laberinto”, una fantasía épica protagonizada por David Bowie en 1986. A principios de 1990 Mueck fue el encargado de hacer algo muy realista, y se preguntaba qué material podría hacer el truco. Látex era lo usual, pero él quería algo más duro, más preciso. Por suerte, él vio un poco de decoración arquitectónica en la pared de una tienda e investigó esa naturaleza linda y rosada de eso. De resina de fibra de vidrio, fue la respuesta, y Mueck ha hecho de su bronce y mármol desde entonces.
